Renee Lalique's Art Nouveau Jewelry

This romantic brooch was designed by RenĂ©e Lalique in 1900. Although primarily working in glass, Lalique began his career as a jewelry designer.    The pieces he designed were beautiful and unique.   Common themes in this designer's work were winged insects, flowers and female figures.  We see in our featured piece that Lalique used a flower design that might also be construed as an insect.  The lines are drawn in asymmetrical fashion, which look like wings.   I love the diamond pattern in this brooch as well.   Absolutely gorgeous.   Lalique became recognized in France as the most acclaimed designer in his field and a leading designer in the art nouveau movement.
